Newness alert! Going above the usual flavour change, we have instead been given the lovechild of the OG Jaffa Cake and delicious donuts; enter the McVitie’s Jaffa Jonuts.
Not just hell bent on the cake or biscuit debate McVitie’s have now thrown donuts (really it’s doughnuts!!) into the mix. The concept is out there and is bound to shake things up. Currently only available in orange, I highly suspect that other flavours will quickly follow.
These were in Tesco for £2.00 or £1.50 if you are a club card member. Each box comes with 4 individually wrapped donuts. The wrappers are recyclable via Terracycle which is good to see, albeit there is the question on why they need to be individually wrapped.
They are surprisingly sizeable. The cake is light and crumbly, the dark chocolate thin and bitter. The orange flavour filling didn’t exactly ooze out the middle as I’d hoped, or the pictures had promised, and one half certainly had more than the other. The orange flavour itself is sweet in comparison to the slightly salty cake, and after eating it left a greasy felling on the pinkies.
These McVitie’s Jaffa Jonuts are alright but they are laking and dare I say dry. The ratio of cake, to orange to chocolate is off and the jelly is missed. Perhaps some other flavours will be a winner but for me, I still prefer Jaffa Cakes as they are.
Nibbles ‘n’ Scribbles
