Battle of the Gingerbread Biscuits

It’s a trio of snacks here today all sporting the Christmas theme. Yes it is time for the battle of the gingerbread biscuits and our contenders are McVitie’s Milk Chocolate Digestives, Oreo and Sainsbury’s Custard Creams. Gingerbread certainly seems to be the flavour of Christmas this year and I am here for it. I managed to get all three in Sainsbury’s and the prices ranged from 65p – £1.90. The Oreo Gingerbread were the worst of all and the only good thing going for them is the cute little gingerbread design on the front of the biscuit. They have a…

Sainsbury’s Bourbon Twists Black Forest

Sainsbury’s have been firing out the twist in the classic custard creams, but for this Christmas they have also given us the Bourbon Twists Black Forest edition. Bourbon to me is an underrated biscuit. I love them and it reminds me of my Grandad, although I am sure he would have a few choice words to say about messing with a Bourbon! For 65p a pack you cannot go wrong. These chocolate sandwich biscuits are filled with black cherry flavour cream filling and the fruity cherry aroma can be smelt the minute you open the packet. Isn’t it nice to…

Turkey Hill Maple Cream Cookies

Is it a cookie or is it a biscuit? If there was one thing I was hoping our Canadian guests were going to bring aside from the Maple Syrup of course.. it was these iconic Maple Cream Cookies. Inside this autumnal box are 18 maple leaf shaped cookies filled with a creamy and pure maple syrup filling. Sounds like a little bit of food heaven. Now can we take a moment for that filling, that is how a biscuit filling should be! If you aren’t into sweet things then these are not the ones for you. The thick biscuit halves…

McVitie’s Strawberry Cheesecake Digestives

Flavoured Digestives are not a new thing and since last year we have had an array of them. From Cherry Bakewell to Lemon Drizzle, Marmalade on Toast and Blood Orange, it’s certainly a far cry from the usual chocolate variety. One of the latest additions to join the family is the McVitie’s Strawberry Cheesecake Digestives. Now you may remember that last year they released a Strawberries & Cream version, so why they have chosen Strawberry Cheesecake so soon after is a mystery. In fact this isn’t the first time strawberry cheesecake has featured as they previously did a filled cream version.…

Maryland Cookies ‘n’ Cream

Okay so these Maryland Cookies ‘n’ Cream aren’t strictly new. They certainly won’t be as exciting as the new Mint Choc ones (available in B&M review from Kev here), but that being said they are new to our local Sainsbury’s. If you think of cookies and cream I bet you’re thinking of Oreo’s, because they are kind on the cookies and cream flavour. Many other biscuits have tried to nail it but sadly the Oreo remains champion.  These are available in mainstream supermarkets and cost around 75p – £1.00 a pack. Maryland have expanded their range in a few different…
