Battle of the Gingerbread Biscuits

It’s a trio of snacks here today all sporting the Christmas theme. Yes it is time for the battle of the gingerbread biscuits and our contenders are McVitie’s Milk Chocolate Digestives, Oreo and Sainsbury’s Custard Creams. Gingerbread certainly seems to be the flavour of Christmas this year and I am here for it. I managed to get all three in Sainsbury’s and the prices ranged from 65p – £1.90. The Oreo Gingerbread were the worst of all and the only good thing going for them is the cute little gingerbread design on the front of the biscuit. They have a…

Quality Street Gingerbread Matchmakers

Normally I am very anti Christmas foods being sold when it is still hot and 4 months till the big day. That being said I have said it before and I will say it again, I do break this rule when it comes to gingerbread, because frankly gingerbread is great all year round. If you haven’t seen these already then gingerbread lovers these new Quality Street Gingerbread Matchmakers will peak your interest.  Limited edition and currently only available in Tesco, I made it my mission to find these and thankfully I did not have to look too far. With it’s red…

Buttermilk Gingerbread Honeycomb

Buttermilk Gingerbread Honeycomb, could it be as fantastic as it sounds? These artisan confectioners are known for their buttery fudge, chewy honeycomb and varying brittles, and come the festive season even they cannot resist getting into the spirit of things. With endless choices the Buttermilk Gingerbread Honeycomb is certainly the one that caught my eye, how can they combine the two? Handmade in their kitchen’s in Cornwall, these sizeable chunks of honeycomb are suitable for vegetarians, have no nasty artificial flavourings and are gluten free. A 150g box comes in at £3.99. I love the cute packaging, it may just be…

Christmas: Waitrose Gingerbread Muffin

It’s Christmas week. Who is excited? This Christmas seems to be the year of the gingerbread. It’s everywhere and I love it! We’ve had M&S Gingerbread Teacakes and Viennese Creams, Butterkist Gingerbread Popcorn, Gingerbread Doughnuts, Gingerbread Porridge and now it is the turn of the Waitrose Gingerbread muffin.   This beast of a muffin is from the Waitrose bakery area and in its bright red wrapper this muffin cost £1.00 to take away, and £1.20 to eat in. Why it should cost an extra 20p for a plate and taking a seat I do not know.  Gingerbread muffin with crystallised ginger, stem ginger…

Christmas: M&S Viennese Gingerbread Creams

My love for gingerbread continues today in the form of biscuits. Now these aren’t just any gingerbread creams, these are M&S Gingerbread Viennese Creams. After the triumphant Mr Kipling Gingerbread Whirls I do wonder how M&S can top them. Each pack contains 8 viennese creams in sets of two in a plastic tray. In comparison to the exceedingly good Mr Kiplings’, M&S have gone for a far lighter buttered shortbread and spolodges of buttercream filling to avoid the potential for slippage, as well as giving them a far more uniformed appearance. The biscuit itself wasn’t as short as I had expected so…
