My experience so far of Fibre One isn’t great. It maybe an unpopular opinion however I just haven’t come across one of their cake bars that I like. That being said my peanut butter addiction is strong and therefore the new Fibre One Peanut Butter Popcorn Bars were on my must try list.
So what are these bars? “Fibre One Peanut Butter Popcorn bars are an irresistibly satisfying combination of fluffy popcorn and crunchy peanuts, dipped in a scrumptious peanut butter coating“. From the description alone it certainly has me wanting to try them.
Popcorn bar with roasted peanuts, wholegrain rolled oats dipped in peanut butter flavoured coating
Each box costs £2.00 and contains four individually wrapped bars. Perfect size to slip in the handbag, they also fared well in transit as most cereal bars turn into a flattened smooshed mess.
Coming in at 90 kcal a bar these are marketed as the perfect mid-morning or afternoon snack. In a bid to curb the hunger pangs these did do the trick and the size is just about right,
Per bar: 90 kcal, 1.7g sat fat, 4.2g sugar, 1.6g protein
The addition of popcorn is a winner for me, chewy and a little crunchy the texture was far better here. They were sweet and it gets sweeter as it goes on. The flavour was nice however the peanut butter was nondescript. I wish this wasn’t the case but alas I struggled to taste any peanut or peanut butter. I know they have used only 13% peanuts and 2.5% peanut butter but I would have expected at least a smidge of a peanut butter flavour.
Overall the bar in itself is alright It holds together well, the texture is what I was after and it tastes of popcorn. The downfall is the sweetness and peanut butter element to it. If they had nailed that then these Fibre One Peanut Butter Popcorn Bars would have got a big old gold star. I am curious to try the Milk Chocolate Popcorn version and when I see these I will definitely be picking a box up.
