Retro Corn Cherry Pips Popcorn

Retro Corn Cherry Pips

Popcorn is one of my favourite snacks and I am always game for trying something new. I stumbled across Retro Corn Cherry Pips Popcorn whilst seeing what was new on Ocado. Retro Corn has basically taken popcorn and added the flavours of childhood sweets. I do raise an eyebrow as to whether crushed sweets should marry with popcorn, but hey lets give it a try.

Retro Corn has an array of flavours on offer from Rhubarb and Custard to Cola Cube, Strawberries and Cream and Cherry Pips, and are all made using traditional British sweets.

Description – With a delicate sugar crystals finish and a flavour so delightfully deep – from first bite your taste buds will feel the luckiest taste buds in the world, ever. This is quite a statement to live up to.

Each kernel was popped to perfection and based on the smell alone it smelt deliciously of popcorn rather than cherries. If it wasn’t for the beautifully crystallised pink sweets on the popped kernels I would question if there even were sweets included. So onto the taste ….. it wasn’t good. There were no flashbacks of delicious cherry pips, just a fizzy slightly Vimto-esque taste. What these did remind me of were those M&S Berries and Prosecco Crisps and that is not a good thing! Wondering if this was just me, I offered these around the house and was met by exactly the same facial expressions.

Sadly it is a big fat no from me. It isn’t often that I dislike something so much but Retro Corn Cherry Pips Popcorn has made the list.

What are your thoughts on Retro Corn? Have you given them a try?

I love this product got it in my shopping today and the kids love it , plus all natural ingredients, I’m buzzing to try the other bags now, that’s if the kids don’t get them first.

I got these in my Ocado shop and tried them yesterday. I do have to say I totally agree with your review. I also love popcorn trying all sorts of brands and different flavours and have loved and disliked many. Sadly this is a very hefty dislike from me. I found them too sweet and fizzy and they just didn’t hit the spot the only thing they hit was the bin.

I am in absolute agreement with this review. I was pretty excited to see this concept of popcorn and childhood sweets, however the taste did not live up to expectations and was not at all enjoyable, and not something I would ever try again. It’s a thumbs down from me too

I totally disagree with this review. Although I am not a vegan, and have never been someone to watch my calories, I have tried all the flavours of retro popcorn. My favourites being cherry pip, and the rhubarb and custard. I love the fact that the flavours are not overpowering the actual popcorn itself. I hate it when companies produce a product to taste like something, but the taste overpowers the actual product that it’s meant to be. I love pop corn and this just gives a different taste sensation to a traditional snack. My son also loves the cola cube flavour ones. Thank you for this new retro style savoury snack.

I have to totally disagree. As a vegan, I’m always looking for that sweet something on movie night that hasn’t been overloaded with animal products, sugars and chemicals. My favourite is Strawberries and Cream. Unlike this article’s review of them, I quite like the fact that you can still smell and taste the delicious popcorn and have the flavours without that overbearing sickly feeling you get when you eat toffee popcorn at the cinema. Not all of us have a really sweet tooth! These hit the spot just right. Finding the retro in this popcorn is easy, when you open up the bag and can smell those classic sweet favourites that we all know from our childhoods, that is the retro! Being vegan used to be a challenge and rather boring in menu options, but now we have people really making an effort to find us a wider range of alternatives. So well done those people! The packaging is quite funky too. I think this review should of been a little more thoughtful about the product.

As someone who is a health fanatic I am always on the lookout for treats that are not artificial! It seems that to get a sweet treat that is naturally flavoured and low in calories is near IMPOSSIBLE, but I struck gold when I discovered retrocorn. Cherry lips and strawberries and cream are my absolute FAVOURITE. I can enjoy a serving of those as a treat and not feel guilty about overloading of caloroies or that I am putting artificial sweetener etc. Into my body. I can’t get enough of them and now even have a mixed box of popcorn on order. I LOVE it and it’s even a hit with my mum (who’s a vegan) and struggles to find a treat that’s vegan and sweet.
