Battle of the Festive Sarnie: Tesco Pigs Under Blankets

Tesco Pigs Under Blankets

Happy Friday! The last in the series is here with Tesco Pigs Under Blankets. Tesco had quite the array for festive sarnies but as we haven’t had a roll, and given pigs in blankets is a christmas dinner staple, this one seemed a fitting choice.

Despite having a slight melton at the fact that when I got to Tesco they were refurbishing the sandwich area and I couldn’t find where they were relocated to, I finally found these hiding up the magazine aisle no less. This was part of their meal deal but singularly it is going to cost you £2.95. This is pretty hefty in the nutritional values and at 619 kcal for just a baguette it is going to be a once in a while treat.

Tesco Pigs Under BlanketsMeaty pork sausage, sage & onion stuffing, sweat cure streaky bacon and tangy cranberry sauce. Per pack: 619 kcal, 5.3g sat fat, 14.1 sugar, 2.1g salt.

The sub roll was delightful springy and fresh tasting. The filling was certainly jam packed and was practically escaping with every bite. With pork on pork it was a very meaty sandwich, perfect for all you meat lovers. The cranberry sauce was sweet, a little tart and as expected went perfectly with the filling, the stuffing was herby, gave a good background flavour and there was enough to cover the entire base layer. Tesco had also opted for quite the thick layer of mayonnaise which after getting rid of some of it, it was a good call to assist in the thickness from the sub roll.

Overall if you love pigs in blankets then this Tesco Pigs Under Blankets is going to be up your street. Meaty, good bread, and tasty with the addition of the stuffing and cranberry sauce to spruce things up, it’s a solid effort from Tesco.

This week has seen quite the array of festive sarnies, but which is the winner? Well all of them had room for improvement but in the same breath I enjoyed them all. In last place is the Waitrose Love Life because of the bizarre cubes of veg stuffing, in 4th place is the Sainsbury’s Wrap , good filling but too dry and the wrap was the wrong choice, in 3rd place is the Co-op Boxing Day sarnie, bit more turkey filling & swapping of the ham and it would be a beaut, in 2nd place is Boots Shapers and was only let down by the barely there filling in subsequent buys, which means the winner is Tesco Pigs Under Blankets sub roll.

Hurrah there we have it. I hope you enjoyed the Battle of the Festive Sarnie Series, let me know what your favourite festive sarnie is. For those wondering if Christmas is over on the blog fear not, the festivities will be continuing so keep your eyes on the blog.

Until next time…
