Monster Munchies: Krispy Kreme Vintage Pumpkin Spiced

Krispy Kreme Vintage Pumpkin Spiced

What better way to kick off the start of the Monster Munchies Halloween Series on the blog than with the new Krispy Kreme Vintage Pumpkin Spiced. This doughnut marks the end of the comeback doughnuts and like all the others were, it is available for the next two weeks.

For those regular readers you will know I have been less than impressed. The Vintage Glazed Kreme was dull, the Powdered Blueberry had the most delicious fruity filling but was encased in undercooked dough and the Cruller well what the heck was that? I think we are all rooting for this Krispy Kreme Vintage Pumpkin Spiced to be their saving grace.

First off thank the lord it doesn’t look anything like the picture which can only be described as a lumpy looking doughnut. As you can see there wasn’t a lump in sight, huzzah.

Krispy Kreme Pumpkin Spiced CakeTraditional American cake doughnut, flavoured with autumnal pumpkin spice and covered in our signature glaze

Cutting open the doughnut it was noticeably a darker, slightly orangey shade, very autumnal indeed. I couldn’t smell any pumpkin spice just the sugary sweet signature glaze. Thankfully we were back to the delicious iconic Krispy Kreme dough, lighter than light, soft and oh so good. The texture was the best of all the doughnuts I have had and is akin to their Original Glazed. I do kind of think this is odd as the description alludes to the fact this should be more cake like but is not. Taste wise there is no pumpkin. There was a fiery warming spice that built up whilst munching on the doughnut but not identifiable as the usual pumpkin spice blend. Added to the fact that the signature glaze drowns out any flavour, there is certainly room to pack some more pumpkin spiced flavour in there.

The new Krispy Kreme Vintage Pumpkin Spiced is interesting. It doesn’t exactly live up to its namesake and I’d have liked to have tasted more pumpkin, but it was actually really nice and a pleasure to eat. This is certainly my favourite alongside the Powdered Blueberry minus the undercooked dough obviously.

See you tomorrow for day two of Monster Munchies…

Have to say I really didn’t like it at all – very sweet and no real pumpkin flavour. I didn’t like the texture of the doughnut either – have to say not one for me im afraid!! :0(

Oh no! It seems that the appearance has varied across stores but the lack of pumpkin spice flavouring is across the board. Such a shame xx

Yours was definitely more of a doughnut than mine! Both in appearance and texture by the looks of it. It seems to work either way however.. KK never fail to baffle me! Haha xx

How very strange, although I have to say I prefer the doughnut like than the bobbly looking number you had. At least KK had the consistency in taste haha xxx
