Krispy Kreme Vintage Cruller

Krispy Kreme Cruller

Okay so we have already had the boring Krispy Kreme Glazed Kreme, the rather undercooked but delicious filling from the Powdered Blueberry and now we have the penultimate doughnut, which comes in the form of Krispy Kreme Vintage Cruller.

If you haven’t a clue what this doughnut is or in fact how to pronounce it, you are not alone. To save face I just asked the every so happy Krispy Kreme chap for ‘the new one’ and ta-da £1.75 later one Cruller was in the bag. This is certainly quite the eye candy for a doughnut. It doesn’t need all the fancy icing just a snazzy shape and you have got yourself an eye-catching doughnut.

Surprisingly despite the signature glaze it wasn’t as sticky as I had imagined. The Cruller is quite a flatty and had a rather crispy bottom, certainly no soggy bottom here Mary!

Krispy Kreme Vintage CrullerOur iconic American cake doughnut, covered in our signature glaze

This was quite the close-textured doughnut and did not have that fluffier than clouds dough we all know and love from a Krispy Kreme. It felt rather heavy and really dry, now despite being an iconic American Cake doughnut I didn’t expect it to be dry, no cake should be dry. Flavour wise it’s all about the signature glaze here. There was so much lacquered on there that it was incredibly sweet and grainy, and after a few bites made it quite unpleasant. I also cannot get my head around the crispy bottom, I’ve never had a crispy doughnut and along with it’s dryness I really question whether it should even fall into the doughnut category.

I have to say the way we are going with these Vintage doughnuts I am glad they aren’t permanent fixtures. This was borderline inedible and as you can sense it’s not one I enjoyed or would buy again. I like the idea that Krispy Kreme have bought back some vintage doughnuts from back when they first launched here, however so far it isn’t exactly floating ones boat. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the new vintage doughnuts so far and whether I’m alone in my thoughts.

The Krispy Kreme Vintage Cruller will be around for the next two weeks, and the fourth and final vintage doughnut, Pumpkin Spice will be available from 17th Oct. Let’s hope they have saved the best till last.

Actually, I liked this better than most of KK doughnuts. Not overwhelmingly sweet, specifically authentic delicate taste. Of course, does not have the “food porn” look of other KK doughnuts. Now, already a KK Classic (as they display in their stand) and regular store item.

MSW said it was like a really really bad madeira with all the dryness! Haha. I am pretty sure it’s its own thing.. Not a doughnut by any means and not a delicious M word, cakey. Heres to the Pumpkin Spice!! xx
