New Limited Edition Costa Ruby Hot Chocolate

Costa Ruby Hot Chocolate

It’s tipped to be the most instagramable hot chocolate of the year, and we are only in February. Released as part of the new January menu, Costa have given us a Ruby Hot Chocolate AND it’s pink!

There has been quite a few things in Ruby chocolate form to hit shelves, including two types of KitKat (review here and here) and Presat Ruby Bar (review from Kevvie here).

What makes ruby chocolate so special? A number of years ago cocoa experts discovered components of certain cocoa beans could produce a chocolate with an exceptional flavour and colour. Above all this gorgeously coloured Ruby cocoa bean offers a totally new taste experience, and I couldn’t be more excited to try it in hot chocolate form.

The Costa Ruby hot chocolate is made with Ruby cocoa which gives this drink its pinky rose-colour. It is infused with sweet berry flavours, crowned with a swirl of cream and finished with red shimmer chocolate curls. Naturally it is a little more than their other beverages, and starts from £3.25.

Costa Ruby Cocoa Hot ChocolateYou know that scene in Love Actually where he is gift wrapping the necklace, this is what it felt like, as the barista said “oh no we aren’t quite finished yet”. The finishing off with the shimmering curls does give it a touch of luxury. I would recommend asking for this extra hot as the cream does make it cold quite quickly. Personally cream is not my thing so after eating the glittery curls the cream was outed.

The hot chocolate itself was sweet, but not overly so, and had a delicious berry taste. If you mixed the cream in with the hot chocolate I image you would get a much more muted taste. I have heard mixed reviews about this one, but I really enjoyed it and it felt lighter than a normal hot chocolate.

It looks dreamy, it tastes dreamy and frankly the Costa Ruby Hot Chocolate is one of the best additions Costa has made to its menu. It is a shame it is only limited edition and there is no saying how long this is on the menu. Hopefully it will feature again, if not then you can get your fix with Presat Ruby Hot Chocolate flakes.

Sorry, I absolutely hated it! It was really sickly sweet and artificial tasting!
