Mr Kipling Gingerbread Whirls

Mr Kipling Gingerbread Whirls

I know I said I would not buy anything Christmas themed before Halloween, however I simply could not resist these Mr Kipling Gingerbread Whirls. The packaging isn’t all that Christmassy and in my eyes given I eat Jamaican Gingerbread all year round, these do not count as Christmas only goods!

£1.00 for a pack of 6 is simply a bargain. They present exactly like the original Viennese Whirls except for the richer, darker colour from the ginger, yet still topped with a sprinkling of icing sugar. Annoyingly they are just in a tray with no plastic wrapping, which means you either need to stomach 6 whirls, share or wrap up tightly in clingfilm to stop them going soft and stale.

I’m not sure what happened to these Gingerbread Whirls but there appears to be a landslide with the filling. Smelling exactly like a gingerbread cookie, these Whirls are buttery and crumbly. The side where there is no filling leaves you with a dry ginger shortbread, but bite in and get a bit that has filling, then it is spot on. The gingerbread certainly comes through giving you a warm spiced taste. I’ve got to say I am pleasantly surprised by these Gingerbread Whirls. Aside from the lack of uniform in presentation and filling, they are blooming delicious and I would happily buy and eat these again.

If you are a gingerbread lover give these new Mr Kipling Gingerbread Whirls a whirl, you may be disappointed in their looks but taste wise they are a winner.
