It has been a while since we have had a Krispy Kreme Doughnut on the blog. This is firstly because I no longer work in a town with a Krispy Kreme shop/stall (I know what sorcery is this). And two because the recent additions haven’t exactly been over enticing. That being said the new KitKat Krispy Kreme Doughnuts had me intrigued and wanting to give them a go.
Signature doughnut, dipped in milk chocolate or White Chocolate flavour icing, topped with crushed KitKat pieces and a milk / white chocolate KitKat Bite. I love a KitKat and I love the original glazed Krispy Kreme so this has to be a real win doesn’t it?
Each is £1.90, or you can go for 3 for £5.25 or a dozen for £12.45. They are available in both stores, stalls and Tesco stores, however I’m not sure if prices vary in Tesco?
First up the milk chocolate version. The original glazed was on tip top fine form. Light and airy, with a slight chewy texture. The chocolate icing was milky and a bit creamy but it lacked the quality that it should have had. This didn’t feel as special as it could have done, just a chocolate doughnut with a bit of KitKat on top. I know that is essentially what it is, but it doesn’t have me wanting to come back for more.
Although I thought this one would be overly sweet given the white chocolate in addition to the glazed doughnut, it actually wasn’t. The white chocolate icing was also much nicer on this doughnut. The glazed doughnut itself was also delicious, light as a feather and as good as it gets. The sprinkling of KitKat gave a bit of texture difference that was more noticeable on this White KitKat Krispy Kreme.
It is fair to say the KitKat Krispy Kreme Doughnuts were delicious and the White Chocolate version was by far the winner! I like the addition of the crumb and would actually welcome it sprinkled across the whole of the doughnut. That way it would really give it a KitKat fill throughout, rather than just half. I also wonder if you swapped things around and had the milk icing with white chocolate KitKat and vice versa. Food for thought!
Have you tried these yet?
