It was a hallelujah moment when Krispy Kreme introduced peanut butter to their doughnuts, and in actual fact it was this along with their Lotus Biscoff doughnut that made me fall a little in love with Krispy Kreme. Like others I mourned the loss of the Reese’s Peanut Butter Doughnut shell, but fear not, with 76% of the vote it’s back, and it has bought a new doughnutty friend. Say hello to Krispy Kreme Reese’s Peanut Butter Crunch doughnut!
Krispy Kreme have taken their classic ring doughnut and have coated it in sticky Reese’s peanut butter icing, and topped it with chocolate and Reese’s peanut butter drops. The downside however is these new fellas are available only in Krispy Kreme cabinets.
The dough was super light and airy, not stodgy and doughy like some of them out there. The flavour was a bit hit and miss. If you had a bite with the delectable Reese’s peanut butter drops you got a distinctive hit of peanut butter, however a bite with no drops and it was just a regular glazed doughnut. The glazing alone was much of a muchness, it certainly lacked in the peanut butter department, which is a real shame. The chocolate was a nice touch, you can never go wrong with a drizzle of chocolate.
This doughnut is one sweet doughnut and is enough to put you in a sugar coma. I am a tad disappointed in the flavour. I’d like to have seen the Reese’s peanut butter drops all the way around, that way giving the whole doughnut a peanut buttery taste. Lets be honest, as someone who is a peanut butter addict if you are going to have a peanut butter doughnut you want the peanut butter to be like you’ve face planted a bowl of the glorious stuff, or is that just me? If I had to choose between this Peanut Butter Crunch one or the previous Reese’s filled peanut butter shell, the filled one gets my vote every time.
If you want to try the Reese’s collection for yourselves, get down to your local Krispy Kreme store and Cabinets before September 6th. Don’t forget there is also a Reese’s Kreme Shake available too!
