M&S Banana & Dulce De Leche Slices

M&S Banana & Dulce De Leche Slices

The spirit of summer is well and truly alive in M&S and they have plenty of new products to tantalise anyones tastebuds. A strong theme that is evident in the new range is Dulce De Leche, they have gone a bit crazy on the stuff, but heck I’m not complaining nor can I blame them as this stuff is delicious. We have hit the dessert aisle in today’s review with M&S Banana & Dulce De Leche Slices.

Banana & Dulce De Leche Slice

Alert we have an annoying inner packaging situation here. Yes I know you want to keep these slices looking as beautiful as possible however a) this plastic inner capsule is worse than a child proof lock and b) it’s nearly impossible to get the slice out without smooshing it thus completely defeating the object.

M&S Banana & Dulce De Leche SliceCinnamon flavoured biscuit base topped with Dulce de Leche caramel, banana mousse, chocolate sponge soaked with banana liqeuer and rum, dark chocolate and vanilla flavoured mousse with a decorative glaze finish.

Visually this banana & dulce de leche slice was good enough to just face plant, look at that oozing dulce de leche sauce! With 4 varying layers and a stuffing of sauce M&S have certainly packed a lot into this slice. With not even a hint of vanilla, the top layer was a smooth cream that doesn’t really bring much to the table. Fear not from there though things got a lot better. The dark chocolate mousse is bitter, dark and perfectly off balances the sweetness of the other components. The banana layer is something else! It’s somewhere between mousse and puree and boy does it taste bananalicious, I just want to eat a bowl of it. The dulce de leche is thick, rich, sweet, caramelly and delicious and complements well with the thicker drier oaty base underneath. The base is pretty soft and stodgy like, with a punch of cinnamon flavour that surprisingly works really well with the whole dessert. I am not sure where the rum comes in all this as I hadn’t a clue this was even a component until I read the ingredient list.

These M&S Banana & Dulce De Leche Slices have certainly outdone themselves. They are fruity, sweet, indulgent and make a lovely little dessert for the summer months ahead. What with these slices and their Peanut Butter and Tropical Fruit Cookies I also reviewed, I think, dare I say it, M&S are coming out of their glut of poor tasting products.
