Eating Out at Honest Burger – Reading

Honest Burger Reading Review

It has been a while since we have done a restaurant review so whilst on an evening out in Reading we decided to visit Honest Burger.

This British burger restaurant first opened its doors in Brixton in 2011 and have expanded to Brighton, Bristol, Reading, and all over London. They promise to make everything they can and source as much of their ingredients locally.

The menu is refined to a handful of items per category and you can choose from either beef, chicken, vegetarian or vegan.

Honest BurgerSmashed beef patty, American cheese, brown butter mustard mayo, white onion and pickles.

Beef burgers are served pink as standard, personally I prefer a burger well done, which I am glad I asked for as even mine was still a little too pink in parts. It is also great to see a burger joint that has chips, coleslaw or green salad come as standard with your meal.

We had the special of the month and the Smashed by Honest both served with Rosemary Fries. Even being smashed these burgers were juicy, tasty and full of flavour, exactly what you want from a burger. I loved my smashed burger, the brown butter mustard mayo was *chefs kiss with the beef, to the point I am desperate to find some, or even make it myself.

Honest Burger SpecialSpecial: Double smashed beef, candied bacon, double American cheese, bourbon BBQ sriracha sauce, crispy onions, confit garlic mayo, lettuce and pickles.

I have been reliably informed (as I hate garlic) for bold flavours of sriracha and confit garlic you would expect them to be fighting one another, but instead they were a perfect match.

Rosemary is a bold herb to use with chips. It isn’t the most common and is a love or hate kind of flavour. With that being said they just made the chips more than just a chip. Paired with salt it brought them alive and to a whole new level.

Honest Burger Onion RingsYou may have seen on Instagram that I have been banging on about these onion rings. Honest to god (no pun intended) they are huge, like size of your face kind of huge! They were light and crispy with a slight bite to the onion ring inside. They are a must order, you won’t regret it!

Coleslaw was also on the menu and one I forgot to take a picture of. This seasonal coleslaw was made up of white cabbage, parsley, cider vinegar and mustard mayo dressing and it was awful. It lacked creaminess and was so sour that it was inedible.

On the whole it was a great meal at Honest Burger. The restaurant was clean, atmosphere was good, and the service whilst it could have been better in the sense of checking in, it was still friendly and polite. Would we visit again, yes absolutely, if nothing else for several bowls of onion rings!
