Taffy Mail Classic Box Part 1

Taffy Mail Classic Box Part 1

Taffy Mail The UK’s only American Sweet Subscription Box. Depending on the subscription, there are 3 to choose from, each month you can expect to receive up to 20 American Sweet treats delivered right to your door. The lovely people at Taffy Mail sent me this month’s Classic Box* to try, and boy was I excited about it!

The Taffy Mail Classic Box is the middle of the pack costing £14.99 and comes with 10-12 American Sweets and 1 can of soda. This month’s box consisted of 10 goodies and 1 can of soda. So what are we waiting for, lets get stuck in…

Wonka Laffy Taffy Sour Apple: Kermit the Frog has been moulded into a chewy bar! Seriously lime green, this Laffy Taffy bar is marketed as a delicious green apple treat, so naturally I took a bite and awaited for the delight to occur. After a few chews the apple came through followed with a hint of sourness. It was by no means as sour as you would expect and not really enough to define it as sour apple. A pleasant enough chewy number but not one I would buy again.

Wonka Laffy Taffy Stawberry: – Unlike the Sour Apple, biting into this pinkalicious taffy there was an instant strawberry flavour. Sadly it was not a fresh strawberry flavour but instead the artificial plasticy type. However what really baffled me was it was more sour than the Sour Apple! I know American’s love Taffy, and I am not sure how close this represents the real deal, but I just can’t get to grips with it. Sadly not one I would buy again.

Taffy Mail

Nerds: – Now Nerds I do remember! Separated into two cartons half were illuminous yellow the other half red, you really cannot miss them to be honest. I have to admit I don’t really get the point of these. Do you pour them in your mouth or pour in your hand and chuck them in and hope for the best? Either way both sides actually tasted the same, not a hint of cherry or lemonade. Not a fan of these at all!

Twizzlers: A part of the Hershey company, Twizzlers are twisted liquorice candy and come in an array of flavours, today’s being Strawberry. These twists are pretty firm to touch and and don’t take a lot of chewing. Pulling apart and taking a bite I was left wondering where the strawberry element comes in. Even after having another twist there was literally zero strawberry flavour too them. In fact the flavour you do get is rather non-descript. I don’t particularly like the texture of them, it reminds me a bit of plastic, and I am not sure where the liquorice comes in either. Twizzlers are bemusing and not on my sweet list at all.

Mike & Ike Zours

Mike and Ike Zours – Ever since going to America I have had a thing for Mike and Ike Jelly Beans, they are just something else, so you can imagine my excitement to see a pack of these in this month’s Taffy Mail Classic Box. It’s been a while since I’ve had Mike and Ike as they aren’t exactly readily available here in the UK. It’s a whole pack of sours, so if you don’t like sour things you are pretty stuffed here, but lucky for me I do. In this pack we have green apple, watermelon, lemon, blue raspberry and cherry. Blimey o’riley these were sour, like suck your cheeks in sour, yet I couldn’t help going back for more! Aside from the lemon I loved every single one, I even mixed them to create a yummy sour taste explosion. Definite winner from me and one I will be purchasing again!

Trident Pineapple Twist: I was pretty surprised to see gum as part of the goodies, but I suppose a fruity gum would come under sweets as well. I am not a fan of gum at all, let alone fruity gum, isn’t the premise of gum to freshen your breath rather than to be all fruity? But I do love pineapple so this could be Trident’s saving grace. Each yellow gum piece was individually wrapped and you can smell the pineapple when unwrapping. Chewing away releases the pineapple flavour and it is pretty spot on. If it was a chewy sweet rather than gum I would be munching these all day long, but the fact it is a gum just puts me off. Alas another one that is not for me.

So that sums up part 1 of the Taffy Mail Classic Box*. Part 2 is coming soon so keep your peepers open on the blog.

The Twizzlers! Like what the bloody hell are they? Haha. You said exactly what we did.. It was somewhere between tasteless plastic and cardboard! JJ wouldn’t approve in the slightest. Regards, Norman.
