Hotel Chocolat Banana Bread

Hotel Chocolat Banana Bread

In a spooky coincidence a few weeks back I was discussing the new Hotel Chocolate Banana Bread Selectors I had spied on the net, when the lovely Lot-o-Choc raved about them and I just new I had to get my hands on them pronto. Part of their autumnal range, Hotel Chocolat may have answered my banana chocolate prayers with this little beauty, lets find out.

For 6 Banana Bread Selectors it will set you back £3.85, or buy 3 and you save a measly 70p. I think it is important to mention here that these are a chocolatiers take on the classic banana bread, not a direct resemblance so lets not expect like for like.

Hotel Chocolat Banana Bread

Simple in design and decoration Hotel Chocolat have gone for a standard shape with a thin piping of white chocolate on top. These smelt pretty biscuity which I thought was slightly odd, but that certainly wasn’t going to put me off.

Cutting open revealed a thick centre with the chopped walnuts clearly visible. I was a little hesitant of the praline filling because I really do not like praline chocolate, but thankfully this wasn’t at all strong in the selector. The chocolate was creamy and silky and the centre was pretty truffle-esque, giving it that elegance. The nuttiness was quite the undertone which gave a nice base to the chocolate and the mini chopped walnuts were the perfect choice to give it some texture. The intense chocolate hit first and as I munched on there was this lightness in flavour that was pretty refreshing but I couldn’t help but taste digestive biscuits. To me there was no banana element whatsoever, which saddened me greatly. I did offer these around the house in a bid of a blind taste test, and it seems I am not the only one who couldn’t identify any banana, let alone it as banana bread.

Hotel Chocolat Banana Bread you have left me hanging on a precipice. The quality is certainly there but where is the banana. Although nice these sadly are not winners in the banana chocolatey department, primarily as there is no banana!

Have you had these? Can you taste banana or biscuits, I’d love to know!

I’m wondering if these are luck of the draw as I’ve seen mixed reviews. I had them earlier in the week and there was a definite banana flavour, but it was overshadowed by the walnut taste which was far too strong. Weird!
