Nothing says threesies in these cold winter months than a chunky slice of cake with a cuppa. In fact I think I have become part cake the amount that has been consumed in recent weeks. One of the more recently consumed was this Asda Extra Special Apple & Blackcurrant Crumble Cake.
This golden beauty is generously filled with rich blackcurrant jam and smooth buttercream and hand decorated with a luxurious butter crumble. Sounds pretty perfect doesn’t it. Coming in at £2.85 you might have reservations that a cake this cheap could really deliver in quality. So let’s find out.
Getting this out I was a little hesitant as it a little greasiness to it, however that is where the negative ends. The texture of this cake is unbelievably light and held when cut. The jam to buttercream to cake ratio was spot on. The jam filling was slightly tart, fruity and complemented what is a rather sweet cake. The crumble addition, well bravo that is taking it to another level. Not at all soggy and brings an extra dimension you didn’t realise your cake needed.
The Asda Extra Special Apple & Blackcurrant Crumble Cake is delicious and isn’t something I wanted to end. Being the theme it will be strictly limited edition. So if you’re in need of a good cake add this to your shopping list.
