Waitrose Cherry Bakewell Granola

Waitrose Cherry Bakewell Granola

Okay so I have been eyeing up this Waitrose Cherry Bakewell Granola like man candy for months and months and I’ve finally cracked and made the first move. Part of their Waitrose 1 range, which is their recent addition of a premium range, it joins several other fancy granola varieties – Salted Caramel & Ginger and Pistachio, Raspberry, Apple & Apricot.

Granola varieties are ever expanding and so is its price. For a 500g bag this Waitrose Cherry Bakewell Granola will set you back £3.99, an average price for granola these days. This is suitable for vegetarians however if you have other nut allergies aside from almond, obviously, then approach with caution.

Waitrose Cherry BakewellCherry Bakewell-inspired crunchy clusters of oats, barley quinoa and honey, tumbled with chopped almonds and sweet dried cherries

Giving it a good old whiff I couldn’t detect any cherry almondy notes. There was quite the mix of clusters, some absolute monsters littered within smaller clusters and flakes. The almonds were plentiful as well as some decent sized slices of dried cherries. My hopes were high ladies and gents! Going in for the all important bite I was greeted with crunchy oaty crispy clusters, which had a little sweetness, followed by slightly chewy cherries that gave a punch of cherry flavour. Taking another bite without said cherries and I was left rather bemused. No flavour whatsoever. I could see the almonds but I couldn’t taste the almonds, they were utterly lost.

I’m saddened to say Waitrose Cherry Bakewell Granola was a let down. Without the cherries you are left with a sweet tasteless crunchy granola that hasn’t really got a lot going for it. I love the idea of cherry bakewell granola, after all cherry bakewell for brekkie is a glorious idea, however Waitrose you haven’t captured the cherry bakewell here and I really wouldn’t waste your pennies on this. The best cherry bakewell number they have done still remains to be their Hot Cross Buns
