Hotel Chocolat Rhubarb and Custard

Rhubarb and Custard a classic British flavour and dessert, and defiantly firm on my favourites list. Whilst perusing the Hotel Chocolat Selectors I came across this one as well as the rather lack lustre Peanut Butter one, which I reviewed here in case you missed it. Rather than debating between the two I did what anyone else would and bought both!

Like the Peanut Butter Selector this too is jam packed inside, and you can certainly see the distinct layers. From the first bite I was met with a beautifully creamy tangy and sharp rhubarb, which perfectly mimics the dessert. The vanilla seed makes a presence and is not at all artificial, however the subtle flavour is taken over by the incredible sweetness of the custard and chocolate. The milk and white chocolate tasted somewhat different, and not good different, more synthetic and cheap and not to the same quality to what I expect, and have experienced from Hotel Chocolat. Although I absolutely adore the rhubarb ganache and could happily eat spoonfuls of it, the overly sweet and not that great a quality chocolate encasing it, brings the whole chocolate selector down. 

Hotel Chocolat Rhubarb and Custard is a British classic dessert almost done well, yet there is certainly room for improvement, and unfortunately not one I would purchase again.
